Boy, 9, Hit By Car In Sarasota

Sarasota Police Officers are currently investigating a serious accident involving a 9-year-old boy.

It happened at approximately 12:30am. The boy and his mother were walking along the Bridge on Siesta Drive when witnesses say the boy darted into traffic and a vehicle traveling westbound hit the boy.

The driver of the vehicle did stop and is cooperating with Officers.

The boy has been taken to St Petersburg by Bayflight medical helicopter as a precaution but he does have serious injuries.

Siesta Drive from the Bridge to Osprey Avenue, both eastbound and westbound, are expected to be closed for several hours.

Those trying to leave Siesta Key in Sarasota County will need to go south and use the Stickney Point Bridge.
