Bombings at a mosque and funeral leave 47 dead in Iraq

BAGHDAD — Iraq police have raised the death toll from today’s bombings at a Sunni mosque and funeral to 47.

A security official said the first attack, in Baghdad’s Baqouba district, hit worshippers emerging from Friday prayers, killing 40 people and wounding 56. The second bombing, at a funeral south of the capital, killed seven and wounded 11.

A health official confirmed the death toll.

All spoke anonymously as they were not authorized to talk to reporters.
