A suspect has been arrested and charged in the stabbing death of a man, running him over with his car and leaving him in a Church parking lot.
Michael Stewart Marston, 33, was taken into custody after he violently fought detectives trying to arrest him at Memorial Hospital.
Police say early Thursday, Marston attacked 73-year-old Rolando Rivera-Arroyo in a South Tampa church parking lot, stabbing him and then ran him over with his car, leaving him to die.
A Tampa Police Officer spotted Marston walking a short distance from the murder scene. Marston was transported to Memorial Hospital for treatment of a broken finger sustained in the attack. About the same time detectives were identifying him as a murder suspect.
Before the murder, Tampa Police say Marston broke into his ex-wife’s storage unit at a nearby apartment and stole a number of items.
The stolen items were recovered at the murder scene.
So far, police have not released a motive for the killing.
