Boat Packed with Migrants Sinks

NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) _ A police spokeswoman in the Bahamas says a boat packed with migrants headed for the United States has sunk and at least 11 people have drowned.

Royal Bahamas Police Inspector Chrislyn Skippings says the death toll is expected to rise. Skippings said Monday that seven people have been rescued and a search is under way for other survivors.

The 25-foot vessel had an estimated 28 people on board when it set off Sunday from the island of Abaco.

Skippings says the boat had engine trouble and began taking on water.

The migrants were apparently heading to Florida.
