A bicyclist was hit and killed late Tuesday night in Hudson by a motorist. The suspect later told police she thought she hit a mailbox.
The Florida Highway Patrol says a 53-year-old man was riding his bike on Kitten Trail around 11:30 p.m. As he was coming up on Dennis Drive, the man was hit by an F-250 pickup.
He came to rest at the south end of Kitten Trail, where he died.
The woman, Melissa Sue Brandl, 40, failed to stop and render aid. Police got a tip and later found her and her truck at her house.
She told cops she kept going because she thought she hit a mailbox. The report will be sent off for consideration of charges.
