Baby Doing Well After Being Abandoned in Pompano Beach

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (AP) _ A woman picking up her child at a South Florida daycare center found a newborn baby wrapped in a blanket on the ground across from the parking lot.

The woman flagged down a daycare bus driver Thursday afternoon and officials called 911.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue crews took the baby to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.

Officials say the baby, whose umbilical cord was still attached, is between one and three days old.

Under Florida’s safe haven law, parents can drop off a newborn at a fire station or hospital with no questions asked.

Leaving a baby anywhere else can result in criminal charges.

The baby will then be turned over to a state-licensed adoption agency.
