AUBURNDALE, Fla. — Police are investigating the death of a 1-month-old central Florida boy.
The Ledger of Lakeland reports Aiken Starks was found unresponsive Sunday at his grandmother’s house by a 10-year-old relative. Police say the child may have been sleeping with several other children ages 3 to 10.
Police say that when grandmother Phyllis Handford drove home from work, the 10-year-old ran outside holding the baby. Handford drove the baby one mile to the Auburndale Fire Department. Crews performed CPR on the child. Police say the baby was last seen alive about midnight when he was fed and put down for the night.
The boy lived with Handford, who is the mother of his 18-year-old father. The baby’s 17-year-old mother lives nearby.
The children were being supervised by a 17-year-old aunt.
