Ambulance Stolen in Tampa

Last night, in Tampa, a man allegedly stole an ambulance to take himself to the hospital.

According TPD, the ambulance was on a medical call when the man saw it the 300 block of E. Genesee Street.  He then jump in the TransCare ambulance around 10:30 p.m. and drove off.

Officers quickly tracked the ambulance using it’s GPS  system and found out that it was just a few blocks away at North Tampa Street and East 26th Avenue.

Police said the man tried to jump out and run, but they caught him and  took him into custody.

The suspect has been identified as 39-year-old Hubert Lee Credit.  He told police that he was beat up by four guys and just

“I got beat up by four guys,” he said, according to a police report. “I saw the ambulance and I was going to drive myself to the hospital.”

Credit had a puncture wound to his head and was taken to Tampa General Hospital for treatment.
