RIVERVIEW — A 9-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday after he carried a loaded gun onto a school bus that carried him to Ippolito Elementary School, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies said.
The boy’s bus driver heard him say something “unusual” and looked back to see the boy slipping a small handgun into the front pocket of his pants, deputies said. The bus driver immediately contacted the school’s principal.
When the bus arrived at the school at 6874 S Falkenburg Road, deputies loaded children off the bus and searched the boy. Deputies said they found a loaded .22-caliber derringer handgun in his pants pocket. He was arrested and taken to the Hillsborough County Juvenile Assessment Center.
