59 Law Enforcement Agencies to Help with RNC

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ Fifty-nine law enforcement agencies will travel to Tampa to provide security outside the Republican National Convention.

The Tampa Bay Times (http://bit.ly/NPl9bv) reports that Tampa Police chief Jane Castor wants to make sure every officer stands up to scrutiny.

Castor sent letters to each agency asking that they send officers “suited to the task by experience, temperament and disciplinary history.”

Officials expect most officer-citizen encounters at the RNC will be video-recorded by journalists, citizens and city cameras posted throughout downtown.

The city is planning to buy liability insurance that covers up to $10 million.

Among the law enforcement agencies sending officers to Tampa in August: the Broward Sheriff’s office, Florida Highway Patrol, Winter Park Police and Waldo Police.
