3 Shot On FSU Campus, Gunman Dead

At least three people were shot at Florida State University just past 12:30 a.m. Thursday morning. The shooting happened at the Strozier Library, which is open 24 hours a day.

FSU PD and Tallahassee Police got a call that a gunman was on campus and responded within minutes. As they were arriving on scene they got a call that one person was shot by the gunman, according to an FSU press release.

They found the gunman near the enterance to the library and ordered him to drop his weapon. He shot at them and the officers were forced to return fire, killing him.

As local law enforcement responded to the scene, they located three victims suffering from gunshot wounds. They were all given medical treatment on scene, and two were transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.

The video below was posted on Facebook by Jessica Davis. It shows students inside the library listening to an intercom announcement. “There has been a shooting in the library. Stay where you are,” and instructing people to call 911 if they have been shot.”

This tweet captures the fear that one girl was experiencing when she texted her family. Reports say that some students wrote what would be their last words on a white board in the library because they didn’t know if they would make it out. At the time, there were about 300-400 students in the library.

According to FSView, a Gannett student newspaper, the library was being cleared out by about 3 a.m. Prior to that, students were on lockdown in Dirac Library and in dorms. All classes have been cancelled today.

Below is a statement by President John Thrasher.

Prayers and support for those affected have been pouring in on social media.

This is a developing story.
