3 Injured in Opa Locka Small Plane Crash

OPA-LOCKA, Fla. (AP) _ A small plane with three people aboard has crashed shortly after takeoff from a South Florida airport.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said in a statement Tuesday that all three people were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

There was no immediate word on the extent of their injuries.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the plane was a Piper PA28. The pilot had taken off from Opa-Locka Executive Airport and was attempting to return to land when the plane went down about 11 a.m.

The plane crashed between a canal and railroad tracks just north of Miami. Television news footage showed the plane lying on its back in a grassy area.

It appeared to be largely intact and was not on fire.
