2.5 Billion Master Plan for Tampa Int’l Airport

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ The Hillsborough County Aviation Authority has voted to approve a new $2.5 billion master plan for Tampa International Airport, charting a course for how it will expand and handle growth in the coming years and decades.

The Tampa Bay Times (http://bit.ly/10CtmSc) reports that the Authority approved the plan Thursday.

The first phase of construction is expected to be completed around 2017.

That phase involves building a consolidated rental car facility, a new automated people mover, commercial development, restaurant and retail space, and maybe someday, a new airport hotel.

Eventually, officials will expand the main terminal and build a new international airside.
