16-Year-Old Shot Robbing Mini Mart

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ Tampa police say the owner of a grocery store shot and killed a 16-year-old boy during an attempted robbery.

Police spokeswoman Irene Thomas told the Tampa Tribune (http://bit.ly/H8VPt0 ) that Quintavius Antonio Moore stopped in Baker’s Mini Mart Monday morning and asked store owner Taquanda Shanti Baker for change.

He returned about a half-hour later armed with a handgun.

Police say the teen pointed the gun at Baker, who pulled out a handgun and accidentally shot one round into the ground before firing a second time and hitting Moore.

The newspaper reports Baker ran out of the store and flagged down a passing police officer.

Moore was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he died later Monday.

The case remains under investigation.
