MIAMI (AP) — Authorities in Miami-Dade County are looking for the drivers of five to eight vehicles that struck and killed a pedestrian and then fled from the scene.
Detectives say 53-year-old Jose Aviles-Vasquez was struck by a vehicle Saturday at about 9:15 p.m. The driver stopped and attempted to help him.
But authorities say five to eight vehicles traveling in the same direction then struck the victim again, killing him. The driver who had stopped initially was not hurt.
Investigators say none of the other cars stopped after striking the man.
Evidence detectives have gathered at the scene indicates each vehicle involved sustained front-end damage. Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
