Day care worker charged in toddler death

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A home day care worker has been charged in the death of a 5-month-old child.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says Tina Toney Lark, of Tampa, has been charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child in the death of Dearron Deshazier.

Deputies responded to a 911 call on Aug. 1 in reference to an infant found unconscious. He was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Toxicology tests found diphenhydramine, a drug commonly used to relieve allergies, in the infant’s blood. The medical examiner ruled intoxication by diphenhydramine and suffocation as the cause of death.

Investigators say Lark had sole custody of the child the day he died and that they found a drug which contains diphenhydramine in her house.
