Tampa Man Kills Girlfriend’s Ex-Boyfriend

Police arrested a 33-year-old man in connection with the murder of a man they found lying in a yard with several gunshot wounds Wednesday night.

Damien Micheal Townes, 33, of Tampa, has been charged with second degree murder in the killing of his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend, Charon Aliem Shaw, 39.

Townes allegedly shot Shaw after girlfriend Leah Waring called 911 to report Shaw in a domestic incident, police said.

Just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, police received a call from who Waring said her ex-boyfriend, Shaw, was outside her home.

Soon after, Waring called 911 again. This time, operators could hear her crying and screaming, “Get your hands off me,” officials said.

When officers arrived, they found Shaw lying with several gunshot wounds in the yard of a home in the 300 block of E Woodlawn Avenue, police said.

He was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he later died.

Townes was arrested without incident, police said.

According to jail records, Townes has a history of arrests in Hillsborough County dating back to the mid-1990s. Over the years, he has been charged with burglary, battery and theft.

Shaw also had a criminal record in the county, with a history of charges including aggravated assault with a firearm, drug possession and domestic battery.
