Normally we look at a genre of movies or a TV series worthy of binging on your weekend summer free time either at the beach, the lake, the mountains or even you are staying at home. Our guests Stewart Lane and Bonnie Comley the founders of BroadwayHD join me for a great conversation about the debut of the multi-Tony Award-winning Kinky Boots.
The duo were the executive producers digital recording of the West End production at London’s Adelphi Theatre, starring Olivier Award winner Matt Henry as Lola and Killian Donnelly as Charlie.
The score for Kinky Boots was crafted by Grammy and Tony Award-winning pop star Cyndi Lauper who has made the transition from writing pop songs to being an accomplished Broadway writer. The show was direction and choreography by two-time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell (Legally Blonde, Hairspray).
Harvey Fierstein, one of the most bankable names on Broadway penned the book for Kinky Boots. For those who aren’t familiar with the play that was first a movie here is the elevator pitch on the show. It is a story of two men who are struggling with what they really want out of life. We have Charlie Price who must figure out how to keep his father’s shoe factory afloat, when he meets the dynamic Lola, a drag queen whose heels are always snapping off.
