Streaming Video: Something For Everyone Including An Orgy

This week in streaming video there is a little something for everyone and I really mean everything from drama to an orgy.

Netflix gives us Bloodline”  an outstanding new series worthy of your time. It is another super hit original series for the streaming service, with not only great writing but a talented cast that includes, Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights), Linda Cardellini (Mad Men, Freaks and Geeks), and Norbert Leo Butz (Dan in Real Life) as the Rayburns.

The story showcases the Rayburns as a powerful family who runs a successful Florida Keys resort and controls the area without any problems. Think Dallas with palm trees and an ocean and you get the idea of how they run Key West. Well as all good drama’s there is an outcast in the family and that would the less than pure brother, Danny (Ben Mendelsohn). He returns to Key West and his brother and sister are forced to reexamine  their past. Bloodline is a family drama with an immediate, jaw-dropping twist that will put you on edge from start to finish.

Next up is HBO GO and how about a good orgy?

Well that is what you can expect from the HBO original series True Detective as season two arrives this weekend. At least two major talents in the adult film industry, Amia Miley and Peta Jensen, both 24, were hired for a wild, Eyes Wide Shut-style orgy sequence involving dozens of naked bodies. The scene was shot over a four day period in a Pasadena mansion. Season two stars Colin Farrell and Rachel McAdams  made sure they were on set for the filming of the orgy scene.

Amazon Prime Instant Video gave the green light, to year two of their new series Bosch, its first original hour-long drama series. The show is based on the crime novels of Michael Connelly, the detective tale starring Titus Welliver in the title role follows Harry Bosch as he works to solve a 25-year-old cold case amidst a career-threatening trial. Since its February 6 release, the program has gotten good reviews, and if you have yet to see it, well then it is a great binge watching show.

“We’re delighted to see that Amazon customers have immediately embraced Bosch,” said Roy Rice of Amazon Studios. “Fans will soon be able to enjoy more of this inspired adaptation brought to life by a remarkably gifted cast.” The series also features The Wire‘s Jamie Hector (who you may remember as Marlo Stanfield) and Lance Reddick (Lt. Cedric Daniels ringing a bell?) as Bosch’s partner and lieutenant, respectively.

Hulu has a number of hits on their hands but this season’s big winner by far is the Fox drama Empire. The entire first season of Empire is now up on Hulu Plus, and it’s not going to be anywhere else.

According to Variety – The entire first season of Fox hit drama Empire is now on Hulu, under a pact with Twentieth Century Fox Television giving the Internet TV site exclusive subscription video-on-demand rights to the show.

The deal makes Hulu Plus the exclusive SVOD home to Empire, which follows the tumultuous events of a family dynasty in the music biz. Under the multiyear pact, all future episodes of Empire will be available on Hulu Plus one day after broadcast on Fox.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed however the biggest subscription VOD licensing deals recently have come in just under $2 million per episode, which is what Netflix paid for NBC’s Blacklist and Fox’s, Gotham. So expect that Empire was in that ball park.

“Empire” has been a ratings smash for Fox, as the only primetime broadcast series this season that has grown week-over-week in viewers over the past 10 weeks — a feat not seen in more than two decades. The 12-episode series concluded its season-one run Wednesday on Fox.
