While performing an intimate gig for BBC Radio in London this week, the 71-year-old rock legend was asked by DJ and TV presenter Jo Whiley what he thought about the 20-year-old pop princess’ twerking, prompting McCartney to quip, “disgusting!”
“Of course I don’t mean it,” he said, according to the U.K.’s Express. “I don’t understand why everyone’s saying, ‘Ooh she shouldn’t do that!’ It is nothing we haven’t seen before. I mean she’s a young girl and these days in that kind of field that she’s in there’s a lot of noise.”
