Broadway: Broke Record Numbers During Holiday Weekend

lion_king_2013NEW YORK (AP) — Thanksgiving was rough on turkeys but pretty good for Broadway theaters — several shows broke records, including the new “Kinky Boots” and the old “The Lion King.”

The Tony Award-winning “Kinky Boots” grossed $1,912,568 over eight performances during the week ending Sunday, smashing the all-time house record at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. The crown had been held by the revival of “How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” which had one more performance in January 2012.

“The Lion King” shows no signs of losing its roar — the show netted $2,365,402, setting a house record for an eight- performance week at the Minskoff Theatre.
