NAPLES, Fla. (AP) — A woman has been arrested after a toddler she was caring for was found inside a filthy storage unit with no water and little food.
Collier County Sheriff’s deputies arrested the 44-year-old woman on Wednesday. She faces a felony child neglect charge.
Deputies say they found the woman passed out inside a unit at CubeSmart Storage in Naples. There were two empty bottles of vodka. The Department of Children and Families took custody of the child.
The Naples Daily News reports authorities found flies and gnats buzzing around a bucket being used as a toilet.
The woman told a judge on Thursday that she had been living in shelters until recently and was on a seven-week wait for a room at a mission in Naples.
