Earlier this morning, a 2004 Honda Odyssey minivan being driven by Jennifer Lee Wolfe, 35, of St. Pete was northbound on 28th Street North.
As the vehicle entered the 12200 block, for an unknown reason, the minivan continued straight as the road turned toward the right. The minivan struck a metal sign post which was in the center median, continued across the southbound lanes and off the west side of the roadway, police said.
The minivan went down a slight embankment and entered a retention pond. The minivan’s momentum carried it toward the north end of the pond and it began sinking.
The driver was able to call her husband, James Wolfe, and advised her that she had been run off the road by another car and that she was in the water off of 28th Street North.
The husband responded to the area, along with units from the Pinellas Park Police Department and the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
The vehicle was found, and the driver was pulled from the vehicle. Wolfe was transported to Humana Northside, where she was pronounced deceased.
Because this an ongoing investigation, police aren’t releasing the 911 calls related to this accident at this time, however police say it appears an initial call was made from Jennifer Wolfe’s cell phone to North County 911 operators at 12:36 a.m. this morning. When an operator picked up the call, the phone disconnected and attempts made to call the number back were unsuccessful. At no time were the 911 operators able to establish voice contact with Jennifer and a precise location for the call could not be determined at that time.
