Did Saddam Hussein Torture Routinely People in NYC Building?

There’s some startling news about Iraq, and strangely enough, it doesn’t have anything to do with our troops being there or having invaded the country twice. The Iraq diplomatic mission in New York City, which sits on a wealthy Upper East Side block near Central Park, used to use its basement as a jail equipped for torture during the years of Saddam Hussein’s regime, That’s right, there was torture going on in New York City and it wasn’t as a Greenwich Village party…

When Saddam rose to power in 1979,he had the “detention room” installed in the building, which is right across from billionaire former Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s home. I’m sure with all the usual activities going on at Bloomberg’s house, he didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary. Iraqi agents frequently imprisoned local Iraqis in the basement for up to 15 days at a time.

So maybe we could take a look at some of our embassies and diplomatic buildings in New York and Washington DC. Maybe we should require permits or just pay a little but more attention when they have contractors in to make changes. Yeah, sorry,Mahmoud, I don’t think we can approve this human stretching rack to be installed at the embassy. Just a little bit oversight would be nice.
