MIAMI — Rachel has weakened into a tropical storm over the Pacific off Mexico’s coast and poses no threat to land.

The storm’s maximum sustained winds Monday morning are about 60 mph (95 kph).

The storm is centered about 485 miles (780 kilometers) west of the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula and is moving north at 2 mph (4 kph).

The U.S. National Hurricane Center says the storm is likely to weaken steadily over the next two days. It is expected to become nearly stationary later Monday, then drift to the southwest by Tuesday.
