MIAMI – Humberto becomes first hurricane of 2013 season.
The hurricane is approximately 310 miles WNW of the southernmost Cape Verde islands, and poses no threat to land.
As of 5:00 Wednesday morning, maximum sustained winds are 75 mph. The storm is moving NNW at 8 mph.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center says the system could increase in intensity today, before weakening on Thursday.
