Veteran Affairs Sec Compares VA Hospital Wait Times to Disney World

WASHINGTON – Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert McDonald is inn hot water. He was at a breakfast with reporters and said this:

“When you got to Disney, do they measure the number of hours you wait in line? Or what’s important? What’s important is, what’s your satisfaction with the experience?”
Yeah, the problem is, Bob. peoples’ satisfaction tends to go down when they have to wait for hours in line…

So what’s Bob’s background that he’s so oblivious to peoples’ needs? A corporate one, of course! He was the CEO of Procter & Gamble, and while at the company he dealt with brands such as Tide and Pringles. It would be an interesting study to find out how long you’d have t wait on hold if you called the customer service line for either of those products. I’m taking a wild guess that even though there’s an unusually high call volume, your call is still important to them…
The problem here is that we get crappy service from corporations and when we hire those same people to run our government, we get crappy service there, too. Politicians are always talking about how we need to run government like a business. Be careful what you wish for, because the continuing failure of the VA is a result of just that mentality.
