Obama Announces Executive Actions

At times with tears rolling down his cheeks, President Obama made his argument as to why new gun control legislation is necessary. While technically not mandating any new law, what President Obama is primarily doing is requiring more vendors (like those at gun shows) to register as federally licensed gun dealers, thus making them subject to more stringent background check requirements for their customers.

Many Republicans and other opponents, as expected, pounced on the announcement, the only difference being the degree of the rhetoric.

Speaker Paul Ryan called it constitutional overreach, and promised court action.

Jeb Bush called it unlawful, Rubio unconstitutional, Huckabee “belligerent abuse of power,” and on and on. And now, the president takes his case to the American people.
