When you wake up, the NSA’s vast data collection program of individual phone records may no longer be a part of the Patriot Act. President Obama has been fighting to keep the provision in place, saying the legislation is essential for national security professionals in fighting terrorism and also strikes a balance between security and privacy But, presidential candidate Rand Paul has led the fight to allow them to expire, calling it “illegal”.
The provision, along with others, is set to expire at the stroke of midnight. Of course, there’s also reaction to the death of VP Joe Biden’s son, Beau. Beau Biden was only 46 and was expected to make a run for Governor of Maryland next year.
