Kasich Drops Out Of GOP Race, Clears Road For Trump

John Kasich suspended his presidential campaign on Wednesday afternoon. The turning point came Tuesday night, with the unexpected departure of Ted Cruz.

The Cruz announcement didn’t just surprise Donald Trump, aids say it also caught Kasich off-guard, just minutes after he pledged to stay in the race through the convention. But with Cruz suddenly out, the calculus changed and the Ohio governor could no longer fend off Trump from securing the nomination. The only question now: will the Republican party largely close ranks behind Trump, or will deep divisions remain.
