Senate race officially underway
With Governor Rick Scott throwing his hat into the ring on Monday morning and declaring that he’ll run against Bill Nelson for the United States Senate in 2018, Florida’s most notable national race has officially begun.
Political insider Barry Edwards joined Florida Live with Dan Maduri on Monday afternoon to discuss Scott’s announcement and survey the landscape on the coming US Senate race. Nelson is a longstanding senator, but Scott is running on a platform against career politicians, touting term limits for Congress and his own background as a businessman.
Dan asks Edwards whether he feels that Scott’s outsider brand of politics should be favored to outlast a polished member of the Senate like Nelson who has survived fierce challenges in the past.
The race is looking to be tight nationally, as both candidates have been tremendously successful winning elections in the past. The race could become one of the headlines of the 2018 midterm election.
