History Was Made Last Night & It Was Emotional
Love her or hate her Hillary Clinton made history on Tuesday, June 7, clinching the presidential nomination for a major party. The former secretary of state, 68, won the New Jersey primary over Senator Bernie Sanders on Tuesday. Later that night, she took California, which put her at a total of 2,755 delegates. (A Democratic presidential hopeful needs 2,383 for the nomination.)
Clinton shared her gratitude for supporters in an emotional and powerful victory speech at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. She took the stage after 9 p.m., with Sara Bareilles’ 2013 song “Brave” being played in the background.
Her chances of becoming president — the first woman head of state in America’s 238-year history — are now much closer to reality. She begins her battle for the White House with the brash GOP nominee Donald Trump in what is likely to be one of the most interesting campaigns in United States history.
Here are a few tweets from last night from some women pleased to see Clinton get the Democratic party’s nominee.
