SNAG DELAYS GUILTY PLEA IN 1984 CUBA HIJACKING
A last-minute disagreement delayed a planned guilty plea by an American who returned from Cuba decades after hijacking a jetliner to the communist island. The attorney for 57-year-old William Potts objected to language in a proposed plea deal concerning the 13 years Potts spent in a Cuban prison for the crime. U.S. District Judge Robin Rosenbaum set another hearing for Thursday.
FLORIDA CONGRESSMAN ACCUSES WIFE OF BIGAMY
Florida congressman is accusing his wife of bigamy in divorce papers. U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson said in papers filed last week that his wife of almost 24 years, Lolita, was married to another man at the time she married the congressman in 1990. Grayson says he was unaware that his wife was still married when they wed. The Democrat from the Orlando area says his wife secretly divorced her other husband in 1994.
FLORIDA SENATE REVIVES IN-STATE TUITION BREAK
The Florida Senate is reviving a tuition break for some Florida high school graduates who are living in the country illegally. The Senate on Tuesday waived its rules and agreed to consider the bill before the session ends this week. No one objected to the motion made by Sen. John Thrasher, a Republican from St. Augustine.
FORMER FOSTER KIDS GAIN INSURANCE UNDER AFFORDABLE CARE ACT
Thousands of former foster youth are gaining health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. The new law extends Medicaid coverage for former foster youth who have aged out of the system and are under the age of 26.
SENATE PASSES BILL CREATING CRAFT BEER REGULATION
The Florida Senate voted 30-10 on Tuesday for a bill that would restrict the amount of packaged beer breweries can sell directly to visitors. Craft brewers opposed the bill. They can currently sell unlimited amounts of their kegged, canned and bottled beer at their breweries. The bill would also legalize half-gallon refillable beer containers known as growlers.
