Fighting Intensifies In Eastern Ukraine Just Before Peace Talks

Ukraine peace talks are set to begin on Wednesday in Minsk between the leaders of Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France. French president Francois Hollande on Tuesday stressed the economic “benefit” of resuming normal trade with Russia. But, even as the talks begin, fighting between government forces and Russian-backed separatists has intensified, as Ukrainian forces launched an offensive to try to push back rebels outside a key port and suffered a rare attack on their eastern military command center.
