Could Clinton’s Support In Syria Affect Her In 2016?

Hillary_Syria_2013WASHINGTON (AP) — Hillary Rodham Clinton is backing President Barack Obama’s pursuit of military action in Syria — a decision that could carry future political consequences.

As a senator in 2002, Clinton endorsed military action in Iraq, a decision that came back to haunt her in her failed White House bid six years later.

Now, the former secretary of state and potential 2016 presidential candidate is risking the possibility of similar political fallout with her support of Obama’s call for a U.S.-led strike in Syria.

Clinton says the world needs to deal with the threat of chemical weapons as “swiftly and comprehensively as possible.”

The potential intervention in Syria remains unpopular with the public, and Clinton’s opponents could use her position on that against her in a future campaign.
