TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Former Republican Gov. Charlie Crist is getting friendly with prominent Democrats and it’s causing speculation that he might return to politics with a new party.
Crist left the GOP last year and ran unsuccessfully for Senate as an independent. Since leaving office in January, he has done events with several Democrats. Those include former Sen. Bob Graham, Congresswoman Kathy Castor and Alex Sink, that party’s nominee for governor last year.
He’s also donated money to Democrat Patrick Murphy, who wants to challenge Republican Congressman Allen West. His wife Carole Crist recently changed her voter registration to Democrat.
Political observers from both parties are wondering if he’ll challenge Republican Gov. Rick Scott as a Democrat in 2014.
Crist says he plans to remain without a party and isn’t thinking about running.
