Biden 2016?

WASHINGTON — If Vice President Joe Biden runs for president in 2016, he’ll be tied to President Barack Obama’s legacy. But Biden is also working to preserve his own distinct identity.

Relatives and friends say Biden is singularly focused on his current job. But they say he’s also considering whether to seek the Democratic nomination down the line.

The vice presidency has offered plenty of opportunities for Biden to stay part of the conversation. He keeps a busy schedule of speeches, community meetings and Democratic Party events, playing to his strengths as a blue-collar guy who says what he means.

If he does run, Biden faces a host of challenges, like whether Democrats will want an older, white male to lead the party after Obama’s historic presidency. Another factor is Hillary Clinton.
