Do we really need to be fighting over a hat?
A 67-year-old Hispanic Army veteran was assaulted as a result of his choice of apparel: a “Make America Great Again” hat in support of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
The incident took place July 30 at a Sam’s Club in Brandon, Fla.
I think that when you wear your hat to a restaurant or I am not sure I would do that because you really could end up with something in your food. But really a fight at a Sam’s Club over political views printed on a hat- really that is worth fighting over?
A place where families go to shop is the last place that I would think two people would get into a fight over political views.
If you support Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton, is fighting about really the answer. I don’t think so but others seem to feel it is worth the battle.
Ricardo Garcia told WTVT FOX 13 in Tampa that he was in the meat department of the store when he had to sneeze.
“(He said) Ah, you go for Trump, I don’t like it. I said, well you can go for Hillary and I don’t like that, but that’s the way it is,” says Garcia.
He says 37-year-old Patrick Mickens was upset about Garcia’s “Make America Great Again” hat, supporting Trump. Mickens reportedly tried to pick a fight. Garcia says he tried to just walk away.
“I grabbed my grocery cart, and I turned around and my back was to him and slowly, suddenly he was like pow! and hit me right here,” said Garcia as he pointed to a bruised eye.
A veteran, Garcia served in the Army for more than 20 years. He says he put his life in danger more than once. He says being treated this way hurts.
