After a seemingly stark increase in such incidents a ballparks, perhaps as more and more fans are distracted by smartphones, Major League baseball players are calling for enhanced safety measures to protect those in the stands.
In July, a class-action lawsuit was filed in federal court in San Francisco seeking to have the MLB install protective netting down the baselines. That lawsuit came after a woman struck by a piece of a broken bat during a game at Fenway Park suffered life-threatening injuries.
