Oklahoma Abortion Laws Under Federal Microscope

Oklahoma is the latest battleground in the fight over abortion rights. A judge in Oklahoma City heard arguments Wednesday in a challenge to new state laws that ban a specific second-trimester procedure and increase the waiting period for women seeking abortions.

The Center for Reproductive Rights challenged both new laws on behalf of a Tulsa clinic that is the only one in Oklahoma providing second-trimester abortions. The statutes passed by the Republican-controlled legislature are to take effect on November 1.
