Obama Signs Onto Climate Pact

While President Obama was hailing the climate change agreement reached over the weekend as a major achievement that could help turn the tide on global warming, one must remember that the Republican controlled Congress is not so hot on the idea. In fact, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell used phrases such as “making promises he can’t keep,” (referring to President Obama) and “is subject to being shredded in 13 months” (that would be the agreement), as part of his reaction.

There’s even less love in the House. Being an agreement and not a treaty, plus by adding some “voluntary” language, Republicans are limited in what they can do. But there are some funding aspects for assisting developing and poor nations, and Congress refuse to sign those checks.
