1.5 billion devices currently use the Windows OS. The key is, that in a major shift in strategy, Microsoft is giving the update away for free for those that already have Windows.
It gives you an idea how crucial the company feels keeping customers vested in the Windows OS is. Still, the PC market is hurting. Critics say Windows 8 may have in fact sped up its demise…and Microsoft is hoping Windows 10 will be a hit on smaller, mobile devices as well.
