Is This The End For Restaurant Tipping?

Restaurateur Danny Meyer, who is somewhat of a big deal in New York City with his flock of 4-star restaurants, announced that he was raising prices on his menus. The caveat, tipping waiters would no longer be allowed.

While some restaurants in other cities have instituted “mandatory” gratuities, Meyer will instead absorb the added wage cost into the prices for the menu items, which he says will also allow him to better compensate his kitchen staff, bus boys, and others, in addition to his waiter staff. Will this trend catch on, and will waiters be happy about it, is the question.
