Holmes Parents Testify, Penalty Decision Is Near

James Holmes came home on winter break from graduate school looking haggard and making odd facial expressions, and later expressed fears that he was failing as a neuroscientist, but his parents said Wednesday that they had no idea he was descending into mental illness.

Testifying in the Colorado courtroom before jurors who will determine if their son lives or dies as a result of his crime, his parents said their son did give them reasons to worry in the months before the July 2012 attack.

ABC’s Alex Stone discusses what his parents told the courtroom on Wednesday, as the moment they begin deliberations closes in.
