Drone Crashes into Landing British Airways Flight at Heathrow

BRITAIN – Put away your drones, people! Some idiot with a remote control crashed theirs into a British Airways plane flying as it landed at Heathrow Airport. Though the flight landed safely at Heathrow and all the 132 passengers and five crew onboard were unharmed, this is a good opportunity to talk about drone responsibility.

Thus thought to be the first time in the world a drone has crashed into a commercial jet during landing. It won’t be the last. There are a lot of stupid people out there. And now many of them own drones. While most people will play with their toys in a safe manner, we know that some people won’t. Some people will fly their drones near airports. And that could have even more dangerous consequences than a nut job with a gun.

If irresponsible idiots can get a drone, if terrorists can get a drone, we need to think about more restrictions on getting them. I can hear the voices now: You can have my remote control when you pry my cold dead fingers from around it. Get real. If we can make you take you take your shoes off at the airport to prevent a terrorist attack, we’re sure as hell going to place restrictions on your toy drone to make sure the same thing doesn’t happen.
