Austria To Build Fences To Keep Out Refugees

Austria on Wednesday announced plans to erect border barriers of its own. This is a reversal for them of a long-standing policy.

They had been strong critics of building fences to keep out refugees. They insisted, however, that the move was aimed solely at bringing order to the river of people entering the country. Austria’s Interior Minister gave no exact date for the start of the project.

Germany, the country of choice for many fleeing regions torn by war and hardship, also signaled its intention to reduce its load of asylum-seekers.
