The tagline for the Ashley Madison website is “Life is short. Have an affair.” Well for some, life may not be short enough, as hackers have stolen user data from the site, have already published some of it to prove it, and are demanding that the site close down or they will release more information.
The hackers, calling themselves “The Impact Team,” also alerted “A significant percentage of the population is about to have a very bad day, including many rich and powerful people.” Ashley Madison has 37 million registered users. That could potentially mean a lot of blackmail coming down the pike.
