Zimmerman is Asking for a Delay in Trial

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) _ The former neighborhood watch captain charged with fatally shooting Trayvon Martin wants more time to prepare his case.

Attorneys for George Zimmerman filed a motion Wednesday, asking that his second-degree murder trial be pushed back from its scheduled start in June.

An immunity hearing in which Zimmerman will argue he was acting in self-defense had been scheduled for April.

Spokesman Shawn Vincent says Zimmerman’s legal team would like the trial moved to November.

Zimmerman is pleading not guilty.

Zimmerman’s attorney is asking the public to help pay for his defense. Mark O’Meara says his goal is to raise $30,000 a month in donations.

O’Meara says so far Zimmerman’s defense fund has raised more than $314,000.
