Despite the warnings of car alarms going off and the risk of being arrested, Angela Radtke didn’t think twice when she saw a baby alone in a car in a H-E-B parking lot.

San Antonio, Texas news station KENS5 reports that Radtke used a tire iron to smash through the windshield and crawled through broken glass to unlock a door and rescue the baby. The only injury she sustained was some cuts on her arms, according to the report.

“I don’t care if I get arrested, I’m going to save this baby,” Radtke said.

Surveillance video shows the baby had been left unattended for 40 minutes. The 1-year-old boy was taken via ambulance to Methodist Children Hospital and treated for dehydration. Child Protective Services has taken custody of the child.

Police questioned Radtke but she was released on “good Samaritan law.”

Inside the store, H-E-B staff tried contacting the child’s parents via the loudspeaker but the father didn’t show up until some time later, the report says. He claims he forgot the child was in the car and is now being charged with child endangerment, which is a third-degree felony.
