The Tampa Bay Times reports Jeane Sams was visiting her cousin’s apartment complex in Port Richey on Wednesday evening when she stepped outside the front door to take a call.
They heard a blast that sounded like a firecracker and Sams then spilled into the foyer, blood gushing from her leg.
Investigators say 28-year-old Michael Bruty had been arguing with his girlfriend and then put a gun to his head, killing himself.
Deputies are still unsure of the bullet’s exact trajectory, but it is believed to be from the same shot that Bruty fired at himself.
Sams was taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point.
